Satay sauce recipe

Ingredients /nutrition

  • 11 tbsp oil
  • 7 pounded garlic cloves
  • 5 pounded shallots
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1/2 lemon peel
  • 1 tbsp tamarind mix with 120 ml water, reserve liquid and discard pulp
  • 1/2 kg roasted and grounded peanuts
  • 450 ml water
  • 7 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp salt

Methods / instructions

  1. Heat oil and stir fry garlic, shallots, chili powder and lemon peel.
  2. Remove lemon peel, stir in tamarind liquid and simmer for 1 minute.
  3. Add in remaining ingredients, bring to boil and cook until sauce thickens.
  4. Serve with mutton satay, chicken satay, beef satay or pork satay.
