Nyonya chicken recipe

Ingredients /nutrition

  • 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 750 g chicken, cut into bite size pieces
  • 3 sliced red chilies
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 5 tbsp water
  • 1 sliced onion
  • 5 drops sesame oil
  • toasted sesame seeds

Methods / instructions

  1. In a large frying pan, heat oil and brown chicken.
  2. Remove chicken from heat, drain on kitchen paper towel and set aside.
  3. Add chilies in pan and stir fry for 1/2 minute. Return chicken to pan.
  4. Add soy sauce, sugar and water. Bring to simmer and cook gently for 12 minutes.
  5. Stir in onion and cook for a further 5 minutes.
  6. Add in sesame oil and top with toasted sesame seeds.
  7. Serve hot with boiled fragrant rice.
