Black pepper mutton recipe

Ingredients /nutrition

  • 1/2 kg mutton, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1 tsp roasted and coarsely grinded black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 4 cardamoms
  • 3 cloves
  • 5 finely pounded garlic
  • 25 g finely pounded ginger
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • 1 1/2 cm cinnamon stick
  • 2 big onions
  • 4 sprigs curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp mixed spice
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cube stock
  • 1 tsp black soy sauce

Methods / instructions

  1. Combine the first 7 ingredients and allow to stand for 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Place the marinated mutton in a pot with water and bring to boil.
  3. Reduce heat and gently simmer until mutton is dry and tender.
  4. Melt ghee in a wok and sauté the remaining ingredients until fragrant.
  5. Add in mutton and cook for a further 20 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with rice or bread.
