Mutton curry recipe

Ingredients /nutrition

  • 1 kg mutton, cut into bite size pieces
  • 900 ml water
  • 12 dried chilies, soaked in hot water for 20 minutes and drained
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 200 g shallots
  • 5 candlenuts
  • vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp fennel powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 cloves
  • 5 cardamoms
  • 2 cinnamon stick
  • 600 g diced potatoes
  • 800 ml thin coconut milk
  • 150 ml thick coconut milk
  • salt

Methods / instructions

  1. Cook mutton in water with some salt under low heat for 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Meanwhile, grind dried chilies, garlic, shallots and candlenuts using a food processor or a blender to form a smooth paste.
  3. Heat up oil and saute grind paste until aromatic.
  4. Add in coriander powder, fennel powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, cloves, cardamoms and cinnamon stick.
  5. Give a quick stir and add in remaining ingredients and reserved muttons.
  6. Serve hot.
