Sesame rice recipe

Ingredients /nutrition

  • 225 g basmati rice, washed, soaked for 15 minutes and drained
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 480 ml water
  • 2 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 3 dried red chilies, cut into pieces
  • 1 1/2 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1/2 tsp black mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric

Methods / instructions

  1. Add rice, salt and water in a heavy saucepan.
  2. Bring to boil for 2 minutes, reduce heat, cover pan and cook for a further 7 1/2 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside for 8 minutes.
  4. At the same time, grind sesame seeds and chilies using a blender or food processor.
  5. Heat oil in a heavy saucepan and saute mustard seeds, cumin, turmeric and ground mixture.
  6. Cook for a minute and fold in cooked rice.
  7. Serve hot.
