Beef curry recipe - Ame-tha Hin

Ingredients (nutrition)

  • 2 lb braising steak, cut into chunks
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp malt vinegar
  • ¾ tsp turmeric powder
  • 3 peeled and crushed garlic cloves
  • 2 peeled and pounded onions
  • 1 in peeled and pounded ginger
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 4½ tbsp sunflower oil
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 peppercorns
  • water
  • salt to taste

Preparation (instructions)

  1. Place beef in a bowl and mix well with soy sauce, vinegar and turmeric.
  2. Cover with cling film and allow beef to marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
  3. In a bowl, combine together garlic, onion, ginger and chili powder.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet, stir in mixture and cook for 8 minutes.
  5. Stir in beef and remaining ingredients.
  6. Add in enough water to cover the beef.
  7. Cover and simmer gently for 40 minutes until beef is tender.
  8. Serve hot with steamed fragrant rice.
