Ingredients (nutrition)
- 2 lb braising steak, cut into chunks
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp malt vinegar
- ¾ tsp turmeric powder
- 3 peeled and crushed garlic cloves
- 2 peeled and pounded onions
- 1 in peeled and pounded ginger
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 4½ tbsp sunflower oil
- 4 bay leaves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 4 peppercorns
- water
- salt to taste
Preparation (instructions)
- Place beef in a bowl and mix well with soy sauce, vinegar and turmeric.
- Cover with cling film and allow beef to marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
- In a bowl, combine together garlic, onion, ginger and chili powder.
- Heat oil in a skillet, stir in mixture and cook for 8 minutes.
- Stir in beef and remaining ingredients.
- Add in enough water to cover the beef.
- Cover and simmer gently for 40 minutes until beef is tender.
- Serve hot with steamed fragrant rice.
